Growing up my family often took  day trips on the weekends.  Living in Northern Virginia, we could hit DC, Colonial Williamsburg, Lancaster, or Baltimore in a day. I still get that itch for a road trip now and then… a little adventure. However, and maybe its because I’m the driver now, road trips today can feel like more work than play between horrid traffic, awful drivers, and expensive gas.
But VW is trying to bring the romance of a Sunday Drive back. They want to encourage consumers to get out there on the road! They came up with a campaign that asks,

What Happened to the Sunday Drive? Back in the 50’s and 60’s, families and friends would just pile into the car and go for a drive - a Sunday ritual. With this campaign, Volkswagen is trying to encourage people to visit a new town, take a ride to the countryside or to just get out there and explore far and away places, all with the notion of bringing back that romance of the Sunday Drive.

To get you prepared for the real thing, this campaign has a website that plays a pleasant loop of country road. The driver can mix their own version of an old time song, which results in subtle scenery changes. It’s pretty fun, even if only for a few minutes. Remix your own Sunday Drive.
They also have some fun TV spots.

  13. I think it would be nice to be able to wear extravagant hats, and gloves, and all these extravagant clothes and not be on the street and not be mocked for it or questioned why. If you wear a fantastic hat during the day in the street people say ‘where are you going? why are you dressed like that?’ and it’s maybe the most annoying question in the world. Why do we have to have a reason to dress up or to be glamorous or to have fun? Why do we have to have a reason for it? I hate it when people ask me why. Why not?
